15 Years Later, Rumors Continue to Spread About “Scarywood”
Silverwood Theme Park has been delighting guests with a happy atmosphere, fun attractions and fantastic customer service since 1988. But there is a dark side to Silverwood that some people don’t like to talk about. Spooky sightings have been reported almost nightly during the fall season. Some say that the downright scary stuff began happening in 2009 and the darkness continues to this day.
The urban legend states that after closing for the summer season, the park inexplicitly re-opened itself at night. While the park was empty and quiet during the day, strange occurrences began happening during the dead of night. Neighbors claimed to hear shouts and screams coming from inside the locked park. One even swears that she saw the Timber Terror roller coaster flying by – backwards! No longer a place of joy and laughter, Silverwood received a new reputation. Locals were even labeling the park “Scarywood” because of the supposed evilness.
This craziness has been happening for 15 years now. The park was even featured on Travel Channel’s “Halloween’s Scariest Thrills” who reported that monsters run amuck here in October. Apparently, there are tales of five haunted attractions and an unbelievable amount of “scare zones” where people feel compelled to enter and possibly never return.
“The rumors are true,” says Sara Meddock, the park’s suspiciously new Public Relations Manager. “There’s no sense in trying to cover this stuff up. Silverwood is haunted. And despite what you’ve heard, people swear that they enjoy it.”
Meddock appears to be nice and friendly, but what is her connection to this “Scarywood”? She is on the record stating that a new haunt has mysteriously appeared. One that she calls “The Swine.” Who knew that behind a wall of towering cornstalks and twisted vines lived three pigs? That doesn’t sound so scary. But these pigs are no fairy tale pets. These little piggies are not afraid of some “big bad wolf.” Oh no. They are clever, vengeful creatures. It has been reported that their hooves are stained with blood as they look to hunt down the so-called bad wolf. Those who have tried to stop them from these hideous acts find themselves in danger as the pigs have set up a dark and deadly maze for them to wonder through. (Where is Red Riding Hood when you need her?)
“The new haunt is so terrifying, you’ll never want to eat bacon again,” says Meddock who says that “The Swine” will scare even the most well-composed guest. Strangely, she seems relish this latest development. “And for those who join us year after year, we are bringing back a fan favorite. Be on the lookout for Pig Mama because she’s angry. And nobody wants to cross an angry hog.”
It’s almost as if Meddock wants people to risk their lives at the park. She also states that a new Trick or Treat Scare Zone has mysteriously been set up where little ghosts and goblins are routinely terrified by the set up. It is all tricks and absolutely no treats!
Of course there are the usual ghost stories that get talked about year after year about the park’s other haunted walk-throughs including:
Chuckles 3D Sideshow: Chuckles the Clown is a maniacal lunatic that some have described as a loose cannon with one too many screws loose. All he wants is one last laugh – from you!
Planet Zombie: Lights Out: Despite fighting off pesky zombies, the walking dead continue to keep coming back to the park year after year. Volunteers are getting scarce and so it is up to you to join in the battle. Fear not – you will be armed with a small, red flashlight.
Blood Bayou: As if zombies weren’t bad enough, the park reports of being overrun with cannibals as well in an area known as the Blood Bayou. Hopefully you can service or the area might need to be renamed, Blood By You!
Pharaoh’s Curse: Who knew that Northern Idaho was once ruled by Egyptian rulers? “Enter the Valley of the Queens, where the splendors have been stolen, and an ancient evil has been awakened. All who enter will be cursed forever,” says Meddock. Now there’s a happy thought.
Scarywood contines to scare the pants off guests AFTER Halloween for a discounted price on November 1st and 2nd. And if you are a Hero, you get in free with ID.
