Helpful Tips for a First-Time Visitor to Scarywood

Spooky season is upon us, and you know what that means—Scarywood has taken over Silverwood! This Halloween-themed event is held at Silverwood Theme Park. During the fall season, the park transforms into a haunted attraction with scare zones, haunted mazes, live performances, and special nighttime rides on its roller coasters and other thrill rides. The event typically features actors in costumes who roam the park to frighten guests, in a variety of spooky scare zones & haunts, and themed food offerings. It’s a popular seasonal event for those who enjoy haunted attractions and thrill rides during the Halloween season. Since this is one of the biggest attractions in the Pacific Northwest, here are a few tips for those experiencing Scarywood for the first time!

1. Arrive Early

This is one tip I will tell anyone over and over. Lines can get long, especially for the most popular attractions. Arriving early gives you more time to experience the park and avoid the crowds at the start.

2. Dress for the Weather

North Idaho can get chilly at night in the fall. Dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll be walking and standing a lot.

3. Get a map and plan your must-see destinations.

Review the map or attractions list beforehand. Focus on your top picks before the lines build up, such as haunted mazes or thrill rides. Scarywood features five walk-through attractions, including the new maze The Swine! They also include Silverwood’s signature attractions in the dark, like Timber Terror—backwards!

4. Stay Hydrated and Energized

Soft-sided/disposable water bottles are allowed but must be emptied before entering the park and can be refilled at drinking fountains. Stop by the Boot Hill Bar as you enter for drinks & snacks, including their new Blood Bag and refillable Hot Cocoa Cups!

5. Be Ready for the Scares

Scarywood lives up to its name. Be prepared for intense scares, strobe lights, fog, and actors popping out of nowhere. If you’re easily startled, be mindful of where you walk, especially in the scare zones.

6. Do Not Dress Up in Halloween Costumes

Don’t wear costumes or masks. Scarywood has strict policies on this to avoid confusion with actors. Plus, if you stand out too much, you might attract extra attention from the scare actors.

7. Stay Close to Your Group

It’s easy to get separated in the dark, crowded areas. Stick together, especially in the haunted mazes. Make sure to plan a meeting spot in case someone wanders or runs off.

8. Take Breaks

The adrenaline rush can be intense! Take a few moments to rest and regroup between haunted houses or rides. My favorite rest stop with my family is to watch Dillusion: An Eternal Encore. This horror magic show will take you on a mind trip you won’t forget. While enjoying the show, grab a hot pie at Plagued Pizza. We got a family meal that included four cheesy breadsticks, four fountain drinks, and a large pizza for just over $30! Now that’s a deal for my family of four.

9. Respect the Actors

Scare actors are there to make your experience thrilling. Avoid touching them, and remember—they won’t touch you either.

10. Have Fun!

To make the most of Scarywood, embrace the scares! The key is to stay relaxed, laugh off the jump scares, and enjoy the spooky vibes with your friends and family—Scarywood is all about fun and frights.

With these tips in mind, you’re ready for an unforgettable adventure at Scarywood. Whether you’re seeking heart-pounding thrills or chilling haunts, Scarywood offers a spooky experience like no other. So, gather your friends, and prepare for a night filled with screams, laughter, and memories you’ll talk about long after the last scare is over.
