Our Day At Critter Camp

Silverwood is renowned for its exhilarating rides: from going underground on Tremors to the heart-stopping drop of Panic Plunge and the thrilling twists of Stunt Pilot. But what about the little ones? Do you get your money’s worth at the park for little kids? What can young kids do at Silverwood? Is it worth it to take toddlers? As a mom of two little girls, I can wholeheartedly say: yes, yes, and YES.

Let me give you a prime example: in the middle of the week, we decided to go to Silverwood on Sunday. We told the girls, and naturally, they got excited (and asked me every.single.day if it was Sunday yet). Enter Sunday. It is cold, rainy, and a high of 50-something degrees; not necessarily a Boulder Beach-kinda day. But can you tell two little girls there’s been a change in plans, and thanks to the weather, we aren’t going to Silverwood now? You try it and tell me how it goes… So we bundled up to head to the park at opening (11 am), and when I tell you we had to pry our girls away after dinner to head home – I am not kidding. 

There is plenty to do in the park to spend a full day at Silverwood. Critter Camp became our haven for the day, and there was no shortage of things to do. We spent a fun-filled seven hours there, and here are the highlights of our adventure:

1. Plenty of Rides

Critter Camp caters to the youngest adventurers with nine exciting (but mild) rides. From the gentle and relaxing Puppy-Go-Round (a crowd-pleaser!) to the Frog Hopper with its small drops (perfect for preparing little tykes for Panic Plunge in the future!) and the gentle Tiny Toot Roller Coaster (an excellent entry-level coaster), there’s something for every little one. The Krazy Koaster became a fast favorite for our girls, and I finally had to cut them off after three back-to-back-to-back rides on it (Mom can’t hang on the spinning rides like she used to!) The best part? The lines are generally short, so it’s easy to go multiple times on a ride, but there’s enough variety in the ride offerings that you don’t feel like you’re going on the same ride over and over again.

2. Exploring the Tree House

The Critter Camp Tree House is a fantastic spot for parents to relax and kids to have some space to roam/explore/get the wiggles out. As a parent, I appreciate the rubber ground at the Tree House: no messy bark or painful rocks! Adjacent to the play structure is a spacious covered area for parents to keep an eye on the kiddos while being protected from the elements (rain/wind or sun on a 95-degree day!)

3. Kidz Kafe for Lunch

The Kidz Kafe in Silverwood is a great place to grab a satisfying lunch. They offer a kid’s lunch box that comes with a PBJ sandwich, apple sauce, crackers, and of course: juice! The lunch box is a take-home container that doubles as a great souvenir to remember your fun-filled day. Also, in Critter Camp, there is a large meadow that is perfect for settling down, resting your legs, and eating a relaxing lunch. 

Silverwood Theme Park has proven to be a paradise for families with little ones, thanks partly to the magical world of Critter Camp. If you’re wondering if Silverwood is worth it for little kids, my resounding answer is a joyful and enthusiastic YES. Head to Silverwood with your young kids and watch them create memories that will last a lifetime.
