Our family loves Silverwood but we have learned that being unprepared no matter where we go, has the potential to ruin what should be a fun day. Here are my top tips to help make the most of your Silverwood experience.
#1 Plan Ahead
Food: Decide ahead of time if you will take food in or eat at the park. Did you know you can take in a 12×12 soft-sided cooler with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks? All drinks that are brought into the park can not be glass and they must be sealed. For those with allergies, there are plenty of places throughout the park that offer allergy-friendly options. Check out my blog post about allergy-friendly dining here.
Rides: To make the most of your time, check out the size guide on Silverwood Theme Park so you have an idea of which rides your littles can enjoy. This will save you time from having to walk up to every single ride to check height requirements and help you know which spots within the park with the most options for your family.
Magic show or Train Ride? If you are only at Silverwood for 1 day you may want to choose one or the other. Usually, these attractions are pretty packed and you will want to arrive early to make sure you snag a spot. Including show time and wait times, each of these takes close to an hour of your day. The Magic Show is only at select times and the theater fill fast, so arrive early. The Train Ride leaves every hour on the hour.
Which Side First? Boulder beach tends to be warmer and busier earlier in the day. Past 4pm I have found Boulder Beach to be much cooler but also less busy. Take your pick! Not to mention the cost of admission drops after 4pm!
#2 What to wear
Shoes: if you plan to get wet I recommend wearing comfortable shoes that are waterproof and that also strap around the heel. If you are doing both parks, there is a lot of walking involved so you want something that is comfortable and will stay on your child’s feet. You don’t need shoes at Boulder Beach but you do for all of the rides in the Theme Park and you will for sure get wet on the water rides. Nobody wants to walk around in soggy socks and tennis shoes!
Clothes: Wear layers. The mornings and evenings get chilly but the afternoons can be very hot. Wear clothes that are comfortable to walk and sit in. I recommend wearing synthetic clothes that dry quickly rather than cotton. My boys wear a swim shirt and shorts so they don’t have change.
#3 What to bring
Snacks and lots of water while you are waiting in line.
A small toy to keep younger kids occupied. The gift shops have some reasonably priced options that act as a souvenir as well. Win! Win!
A backpack to hold any valuables, snacks, drinks, etc. Most rides have a secure place to set your items while on the ride.
A wagon to hold the cooler, extra water, extra clothes and towels. It is also great for the little ones who get tired or have a hard time keeping up. The wagons cannot go in the lines but can be left just outside the ride.
Dry clothes to change into if you plan on staying after dark.
Towels to dry off after Boulder Beach or water rides.
A plastic bag for your phone and backpack while on Thunder Canyon. You will get drenched and you must take all belongings with you on this attraction.
Life jackets are free at Boulder Beach. However, you can bring your own if you don’t want to worry about finding one. There are usually plenty near the wave pools however, they are first come first serve!
#4 Quick Tips
Arrive at least 30 minutes early to the magic show to guarantee a good seat. Go during dinner or lunch to make the most of your time. Order pizza in the Theater of Illusion or take in your own food to eat while watching the show. (They even have gluten-free crust at no extra charge). The tables are great if you plan to eat but we think the bleachers are the best for seeing all of the magic tricks.
Stop by the ice creamery, the one scoop is ginormous!
Have a plan for strollers and wagons before getting in line.
Heartfelt blessings until next time,
Cheree
About the Author:
Hello, my name is Cheree! I am a wife and mom. I own a business called Heartfelt Mamas, where I share motherhood struggles and teach self-care through blogging and social media. I have been married to my husband for 12 years, and we have two boys who are in 1st grade and preschool. Our family loves to explore the outdoors and find activities around the Spokane area. We do our best to cherish experiences over things. I have been to Silverwood as a kid, teenager, young adult, adult — and now as a parent too. I am an adrenaline seeker; roller coasters and thrill rides are my all time favorite! As a child, my dad and I would always try to find the rides that gave us the biggest adrenaline rush. Now my 6-year-old and I do the same. He is so excited to be tall enough for the big coasters this year!
We Love Silverwood and have spent many days there this summer.
We would like to see some improvements on the Train ride. A bigger fairy land with live actors, and staging of props. The opportunities are endless and some areas are unutilized.
Expansion of the Antique cars ride would be awesome as well, considering the wait is always long with boarding etc perhaps two tracks in opposite directions.

We love the ice cream and all the treats – funnel cakes are yummy too.

Thank you so much for this article. I am loving all the information I did not know.
Great advice! I’d add to buy the SW plastic pop jugs at the beginning of your stay! Then you can use them for water if you stay additional days 🙂
