“I am stuck on Band-Aid brand ’cause Band-Aid’s stuck on me!
I am stuck on Band-Aid brand ’cause germs don’t stick on me!
‘Cause they hold on tight no matter what on fingers, toes, and knees.
I am stuck on Band-Aid brand ’cause Band-Aid helps heal me!”
There has been a handful of “Super-Mom” days in my 13 years of motherhood. But there have also been days like this one when this “Super-Mom” needed some super-hero help…
We had been promising the kiddos a trip to Silverwood Theme Park to use their Silverwood Tickets earned through their Read 2 Ride (such a great program!) but summer always flies by and time was running out to make the visit happen. Our calendar was slammed and my husband had to work, so I packed up four eager children in the car and headed for the park as a SOLO parent.
The 60-minute drive was a-buzz with mapping out our day. Which Silverwood rides we’d start with once the park opened and when we’d hit Garfield’s Summer Camp (a must for the toddler!). Since it was already September, the water park was closed which made packing much lighter and we just had a small diaper bag filled with some snacks and the obligatory change of clothes for the lil’ guy. We were on cloud nine!
Then came the first hiccup. Did I really leave the house WITHOUT A STROLLER??? This was bad… thankfully there are strollers for rent near the entrance of the park, but we figured we’d save our cash and pass the two-year-old around on piggy-back as long as we could and see if we could muster through the day without one. (Hindsight is 20/20 people, just rent a stroller!)
Everything was smooth sailing until the toddler’s nap-time approached. He started getting fussy, wanting to walk on his own, then be carried, then walk, then be carried… you get the picture. All of a sudden he tripped over his own feet and was on the ground in sobs of tears. He’d stubbed his toe and the day was toast. As my fellow mommas know, sometimes there is no consoling an upset toddler, I didn’t pack a first-aid kit let alone a bandaid, we were sinking fast…
That’s when I looked up and noticed we were right by the Theater of Illusion, which happens to be right next door to the first aid station. I swooped up my sobbing child and we dashed over to first aid to see if they could help. And here’s where Silverwood endeared themselves even more to this wary momma’s heart! In no time they had my son seated in a chair (staring right at a giant Garfield stuffed animal – talk about a happy distraction!), they cleaned him up, bandaged him tiny toe and even taped it so well that we were able to enjoy the rest of our day, sans tears!
I’m happy to report we spent a full day at Silverwood and headed home with full hearts and sleepy kids!
Getting hurt or sick while on vacation isn’t fun for anyone. Thankfully at Silverwood, there are certified EMTs with Advanced First Aid Training walking throughout the park and located at two first aid stations during park hours (one in the main park and one in Boulder Beach).
All first aid responders want you to have the best day at the park as possible and are trained to help stop a nosebleed, assist with any feeling of motion sickness, bandage up a cut (or stubbed toe!), ease a bee sting and so much more. The first aid offices are air-conditioned, so if you find yourself needing to get out of the heat for a few minutes, go give them a visit! They even have medical beds where you can rest under their watchful care if you become overheated.
If you’re traveling to the park with a nebulizer, insulin or other medication that should be refrigerated, stop by the first aid office! They have lockers and a refrigerator where you can store your meds until you need them.
Affectionately dubbed “Green Shirts”, the First Aid staff can be found walking throughout the park with their fully stocked backpacks as well as at the two First Aid Stations in the park. I actually had the privilege to sit down and chat with two of the “Green Shirts” (aka: Silverwood First Aid Team) and ask them a few questions. Grant, a member of the team said this about his love for his job, “I love the medical field and training…but the real joy is the people. I grew up coming to the park as a kid, so I want every visitor to have the same memorable experience as I did.” I love that!
Also, as for the lifeguards at Boulder Beach, they go through extensive training and have strict safety guidelines and procedures they follow… just stand back and watch them for a minute or two, you’ll be impressed!
Needing medical attention while trying to enjoy a day with friends and family can make the best of us try and “tough it out”. Not knowing what may happen and what it may cost when away from home can cloud judgment, but worrying all day is not going to allow you and your family to enjoy the day. Once again, Silverwood is ready to assist. They have established a relationship with the Timberlake EMS and their team will drive to the park and check you out, should you need their assistance. You won’t actually be charged for their evaluation unless a trip in the ambulance to a local hospital is needed!
The first aid crew genuinely wants you to enjoy your time at the park, so here are a few tips they’d like you to consider while visiting:
Staying overnight at the Silverwood RV Park? Perfect! There is a 24-hour security guard on duty who has been trained in first aid and AED. If you find the need for medical help while at the RV park, get a hold of the security guard!
Most of all, the First Aid team at Silverwood wants all the patrons to have an amazing day, “Our opportunity is to turn a person’s day around. To take an unforeseen moment and make it a great memory.”
My name is Kelsey Steffen. My husband and I have been married for 13 years and moved to North Idaho nearly 11 years ago. Five years ago, we started a blog called Full of Days where we document and share all of our tips and tricks for living life to its fullest. In the summertime, our family tradition is making weekly trips to Silverwood. We split our time equally between the water park and the rides — but if we had to favor one side, it would be the water park. We all love the water!

Dear Silverwood, I would love, love, love to win tickets so I could bring my nephew before school starts. We would have a blast, I know! Especially if we could go to the water park. I don’t have Instagram, Pinterest, or Tweets.

I would love to go back since i havent been there in quite a few years. Thanks for creating such fun, safe and amazing family memories for me. The raft ride was by far my favorite!
blog about a day a Silverwood
Love this story. I have only been to this theme park one time. I have three special needs sons at home, one that is in treatment for cancer, that keep us pretty busy. I really look forward to trying to make it there this summer with the boys and their dad. It is very comforting to know you have staff available if an incident arises.
I am thankful for behind the scene helpers like the green shirts! My daughter experienced stomach pain at an amusement park and after a visit to the first aid office, she was back on her feet riding rides!
